Themes
Two key themes of the Learning on Screen Conference 2009 will be:
Moving Image and Sound:
- • Disability and Access
- • New Online Services
Disability and Access
Universities and colleges are, in UK law, ‘responsible bodies’, and required under the SENDA legislation (Special Educational Needs Disability Act 2001) not to treat disabled students less favourably than a non-disabled person in the delivery of services (including learning resources). This is a challenge when considering access to moving image and sound content. If a disabled person is at a 'substantial disadvantage', responsible bodies are required to take reasonable steps to prevent that disadvantage.
Papers are invited from those who have engaged with this challenge in higher and further education.
New Online Services
Twelve years ago the BUFVC convened a conference on developing online delivery of moving image and sound and related media to support learning and research. Now this form of delivery has become a commonplace internationally – and there have been a number of large-scale publicly funded activities in the UK to support digitisation and online access. As the second wave of JISC-funded digitisation projects nears completion, the conference will offer an opportunity to explore moving image and sound resources being released by this and other initiatives.
The programme will be arranged in 30-minute sessions. We are therefore seeking proposals with a speaker presentation time of 20 minutes each.
Please submit your proposal (with a title and 200 word summary, along with your name, current position and short biography) to learningonscreen@bufvc.ac.uk on or before 15th January 2009.
Speakers selected to present will be charged 50% of the conference registration costs.
We look forward to hearing from you.
