Film and Sound Online is a diverse collection of high-quality moving image encodings, designed for use across the UK's Higher and Further Education sector, using the JANET broadband network. Among the collections featured are the Films of Scotland series from the Scottish Screen Archive and substantial material from both world wars from the Imperial War Museum Film and Video Archive. Access is restricted to UK Higher and Further Education institutions, which need to sign into a sub-licence before use, which remains free. The moving images are delivered in the Windows Media Player and QuickTime formats, and are downloadable for local reuse.

The Moving History web site is a research guide to the United Kingdom’s twelve public sector film archives and provides a showcase for their collections. Moving History's role is to show, describe and provide links to these key collections located around the UK.

The Moving History guide aims to encourage research into archive film and film history, and to promote the value of these resources to all, including academics and students across the arts and humanities in higher education. It is hoped that the information found here will be of interest to all those who seek to expand their understanding and use of moving image material.
