NORTH EAST FILM ARCHIVE

Description
Previously known as the Northern Region Film and Television Archive, in 2012 NEFA merged with the Yorkshire Film Archive (YFA) (qv).

NEFA is the recognised public sector moving image archive serving County Durham, Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear and the Tees Valley. The NRFTA was formed in 1998 as a consortium of a number of organisations which held existing film and television collections in the region, and became a limited company in 2003. Our collecting remit encompasses any material relevant to life and work in the northern region of England. Our major collections include an almost complete run of filmed inserts from the regional BBC news programme Look North from 1957-1991, a similar collection of news and documentary footage from the regional ITV broadcaster Tyne Tees, and industrial collections which include Trade Films’ output and the ICI corporate collection. We also hold a wide range of smaller deposits, including educational, promotional and training films and a large collection of amateur ‘home movie’ footage.
